PARC to Fly Over July 4th Celebration

For the 3rd time in as many months, CyPhy Works’ PARC drone will fly above a major Boston event. The annual Fourth of July Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular takes place along the Charles River on Tuesday.  Massachusetts State Police will lead the security operation and use PARC for persistent aerial views of the expansive event site between the Longfellow and Massachusetts Avenue Bridges, on both the Boston and Cambridge sides of the river.

Federal, state and local agencies were all represented at a press conference on Friday, June 30 when security plans were outlined.  Leaders, including Undersecretary for Homeland Security Patrick McMurray, emphasized the successful security measures taken for two other recent high-profile events, the Boston Marathon and Sail Boston.  Massachusetts State Police spokesman David Procopio told the Boston Globe in an email the tethered drone proved to be “very effective” at both those events.

CyPhy Works is the only UAV authorized to fly in the area.  Personal and hobby drones aren’t allowed.
